Woman enjoying coffeeMaybe you’ve been everywhere and your doctors haven’t helped you. Or perhaps you’re tired of taking multiple medications that leave you feeling unwell. You might feel bloated or run down, experience mood swings and digestive distress.

At Morris Spine & Sport, we offer functional medicine that can help diagnose and treat women’s health issues, with an emphasis on curing the root cause of pain, inflammation and dysfunction.

Symptoms You May Be Experiencing

If you suffer from any of the following, functional medicine could help you:

  • Bloating
  • Fatigue
  • Gut issues
  • Headaches
  • Hormonal imbalances
  • Joint pain
  • Mood changes
  • Skin issues
  • Swelling
  • Weight management

What to Expect

The first step is to have a conversation on the phone with Dr. Case. Then, we’ll send you some questionnaires. These include a stress questionnaire, metabolic assessment form, and toxicity questionnaire. We will also have you complete an extensive history, along with an adverse event questionnaire. Dr. Case will have you keep a 7-day food diary of everything you eat that week.

After you’ve completed everything, we’ll ask if you have any blood tests, scans, or tests that you’ve had within the past three years. Dr. Case will have you get all that information to her at least a week ahead of your appointment.

Dr. Case will review all that and do a functional analysis of any blood work. She will review and grade your forms and provide her recommendations.

Taking a Targeted Approach

Dr. Case will look at your symptoms and put them into categories where the issues might be (e.g., GI, liver, gallbladder, adrenals or stomach), and then she’ll determine where to start.

“Most often we’re looking at the GI tract and inflammation, so we usually fix the GI tract first to make sure foods aren’t causing inflammation,” said Dr. Case. She will ensure you don’t have a leaky gut, which means the integrity of the GI tract, when we’re exposed to foods and toxins, has broken down.

“It’s like the gut becomes a bucket with holes in it, and those holes expose our immune system to things it wouldn’t normally be exposed to. Once the immune system gets triggered, then we get all kinds of system inflammation,” she added.

Dr. Case will look at the foods you’re eating and may start you on an elimination diet. She may do food testing to see if you have sensitivity to any foods. If you do, she will pull those foods out of your diet. “I find that once we pull out sensitivity-causing foods, our inflammation levels go down dramatically, and a person starts to feel better almost immediately,” said Dr. Case.
